Welcome To Pontblyddyn Cricket Club
Pontblyddyn C.C. is one of, if not the, oldest cricket club in Wales, with the earliest known reference dating back to 1840. According to Sir Garfield Sobers it is unique! On a visit to the club he commented that it was the only ground in the world where he had to cross a river bridge to reach the field of play.
Our beautiful setting on the Hartsheath Estate, with rivers flowing on 3 sides of the ground makes it one of the most picturesque grounds in Great Britain.
Our first, second and third eleven's all play in the North Wales Cricket League, the 1XI in the Premier league, the 2XI in Division 2 and our 3rd XI Team, for young players on the verge of senior cricket, in the 3XI Sunday League. This team were joint winners of the league in 2010 and will be looking to develop further during 2011.
We participate in the Welsh knock-out and the Flintshire knock-out tournaments and fulfill the criteria of a "Village," being probably one of the smallest villages in Wales.
We are an Accredited Club and hold the prestigious CLUBMARK award, for which the club has to be re-Accredited every 3 years, indicating that we are a club that is well managed and organised. The club was also awarded the prestigious title of Flintshire Community Club of the Year in 2010 at the Flintshire Sports Personality of the Year Awards, which again reflects most creditably on our work within the local community.
For the last 5 years, the club has participated in the ECB/CBW initiative 'Chance to Shine' which aims at restoring cricket to the curriculum in state schools. We will again be going into local schools in 2011, where coaches from the club will be working with schools throughout the summer term to further our partnerships and encourage more youngsters to take up the game.
We are proud of our junior section, we have successful teams at under 9, 11, 13, and under 15 levels who compete in the NEWJCD leagues and CBW national competitions and we are also actively encouraging girls to form a team. Our ECB CA qualified coaches ensure the youngsters have the highest level of skills training, with coaching at indoor nets during the winter and regular weekly outdoor coaching during the season every Friday night.
The youngsters are the future of cricket and their development is nurtured at Pontblyddyn. We look to give every youngster the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
So anyone interested, boys or girls please come and join us! - contact Tony Moss 01244 550108
